Jiexi: How to install Mac OS X on the Gigabyte P35X

no comments / Topic created: 715 days ago / Tags: hackintosh macosx gigabyte p35x howto guide

Materials:
Azurewave AW-CE123H (Built in Intel 7200 is not compatible)
Additional Msata if you only have one
USB flash drive
Access to a Mac OS X (legit or hackintosh, maybe virtualized works too) installation to download Mac Os X and create USB installer from.

Prerequisites:
Separate drives for Windows and Mac OS
GPT/UEFI Windows Installation
Non-raided drives
Make sure you delete the secure boot variables in your Bios

Windows Pre-Setup:
Download Wifi/BT drivers: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BymjnWe2GymcVnU2MlJPTENZRG8&usp=sharing
or
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-13-9343-laptop/drivers/advanced

Install your new hardware (we will not be going over how to open up the laptop to do this. This is at your own risk, I will not be help responsible for any damage you may cause to your laptop).

Boot up your computer

Install Wifi/BT drivers

Pre-Setup trouble
If you can't get the drivers to work, you might have to reinstall windows (I know, seriously?). I encountered this issue and a fresh reinstall fixed the issue instantly. Smart update will make this process quick and less painful.

Microsoft's media creation tool allows you to create a windows 8.1 install on your usb drive to aid you in reinstalling. Your serial key is stored in the Bios.

Making the USB Installer:
Install Mac Os X Yosemite from the App store

Open Disk Utility, Select USB Drive, Select Partition Tab
Click the drop down and select 1 partition
Click options, Select Guid Partition Table (GPT)
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Name the partition INSTALL
Hit Apply

sudo "/Applications/Install OS X Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia" --volume /Volumes/INSTALL --applicationpath "/Applications/Install OS X Yosemite.app" --nointeraction

Download http://sourceforge.net/projects/cloverefiboot/

Make sure you do NOT install to your actual MacOsX installation (potentially rendering it unbootable)

Go through the installer, set the install location to the usb drive, click customize

(If you're not sure which, just try one, and come back and restart starting from this step with the other if it doesn't work)

For Clover UEFI, run the Clover Installer package:
- select the target of the install to "CLOVER EFI" using "Change Install Location"
- select "Customize" (the default is a legacy install -- we need to change it)
- check "Install for UEFI booting only", "Install Clover in the ESP" will automatically select
- check "Bluemac" from Themes (the config.plist files I provide use this theme)
- check "OsxAptioFixDrv-64" from Drivers64UEFI

For Clover legacy, run the Clover Installer package:
- select the target of the install to "CLOVER EFI" using "Change Install Location"
- select "Customize" (we need to change some of the default options)
- "Install for UEFI booting only" will be unchecked
- "Install Clover in the ESP" will be unchecked
- in "Bootloader", check "Install boot0ss in MBR"
- "CloverEFI" should be checked
- check "Bluemac" from Themes (the config.plist files I provide use this theme)

Once done, open the EFI folder/partition and replace the clover folder with this clover folder

You now have an initial working version for your Clover Drive

Initial Installation:
Stick the USB Drive into your laptop

Startup your laptop (i'm assuming you have deleted secure boot variables inside the bios at this point)

Press the F12 button until the boot menu comes up

Select your USB drive with the [UEFI] tag

If you drive is not listed, enter setup, quit setup, and try entering the boot menu again. Sometimes the usb drive isn't recognized by the bios on initial boot, but works after you enter setup and leave, probably giving it enough time to be recognized the second time around.

Select Install Mac Os X Yosemite when Clover boots up

Go through the installer until you get to the menu of options

Open Disk Utility, Select Target drive you want to install mac os on, Select Partition Tab
Click the drop down and select 1 partition
Click options, Select Guid Partition Table (GPT)
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Name the partition Yosemite (you can change this later)
Hit Apply
Quit Disk Utility
Continue with the install process (it may appear to be frozen at "about a minute left", just let it run until it shuts down)

Once your P35X finishes the install and has shut down, we are almost at a bootable mac os installation. Right now the mac os installation we just made isn't bootable because we haven't installed clover on it. So let's do that.

Pull the usb drive out and put it back inside your Mac Os X machine.
Make a directory called Tools (or whatever)
Copy the clover installer .pkg (.md5 also if exists) into Tools
Copy the clover directory (same one we used to replace the one in the EFI folder) to the Tools directory

Eject your USB Drive and put it back into your P35X.
Boot into the usb drive [UEFI].
This time when clover loads, select the Yosemite Mac OS X instead of the Installer or Recovery.
Setup your account
Once on the desktop, open finder and launch the clover installer
This time, install to your Yosemite drive instead of the USB drive.
Use the "For Clover UEFI" instructions even if you used legacy for the USB drive.
Replace the the Yosemite drive's EFI/Clover directory with the one from the USB Drive/Tools/Clover directory

Remove the USB Drive
Restart your computer and confirm you can boot into clover and into mac os x without the usb drive.

Post Installation:
Kexts:
Download Kextdrop: https://www.cindori.org/software/kextdrop/
Download P35X Kexts: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g7hb13po6hywlqu/kextsP35.zip?dl=0
Put both onto a usb drive and insert into hackintosh.
Install Kextdrop (you may need to enable apps outside mac store to be able to launch it).
Drag the kexts into kext drop and install them.
Restart your hackintosh. Wifi among other things should be working now.
